Autumn's Simple Pleasures

 Good Morning!

Autumn is in full swing here, and it's getting colder with each day.  It was 35 degrees when I got in my car one morning, and I've had my heater going for the last couple weeks.  Fall is all around me, inside the house, and outside.  Look at the color on these trees!

There were 7 Doves on my lawn one morning, and I love when they visit.

I've been baking a lot lately.  I made some oatmeal cookies from scratch.  They turned out really good.  I had some pecans in the cupboard, so I sprinkled some in there.

Nel went to Mia's classroom to do a "surprise secret reader."

When I gave away some things to the girls this year, I thought I could part with some of their books, but it's the one thing that I can't seem to let go.  I spent a great deal of time reading to my kids when they were little, so it's hard to say good-bye to those storybooks.  One day I will give every book to whoever wants it, but for now, they will stay with me.

I have been having pumpkin spice coffee lately.  Have you tried it yet?

My son made an English breakfast one morning,

and a kielbasa sausage stew for dinner.  I always say it's his best stew yet, and it truly is!  It was spicy, but I could handle it, and filled with lots of good veggies and sausage and tender beef.

Jess calls this fellow "ghostie."  This picture made me laugh with the ghost screen in the distance.

Some silliness at soccer.

And some silliness at home.

Yes, I've been watching Christmas movies already.  This one was a cute film.  I liked all the actors in it; it was lighthearted, and got me thinking about the Christmas season ahead.

Went into the restaurant on Saturday morning to see if they had any Mexican pastries.  They sell them on the weekends, and by the end of the weekend they are all sold out.  Mireya checked in back to see if they were ready (so strange cause I had a Mireya in my hometown also).  She told me that the owner bakes them, which I didn't know.  They just came out fresh from the oven, and there were racks and racks of warm pastries, so I brought two home with me.  They always treat me well there.

I had a long visit with my neighbors over the weekend.  They were both outside, one taking his daily walk, and another who just lost her husband recently, and I try to check up on her when I can.  They both mentioned that it was going to be a cold winter.  I gave V. a painting of mine that I was going to give away.  It was very nice, but I don't really have too much pink in my home.  She loved it.  We had a nice visit, and we do look out for each other here in the neighborhood, and that pleases me.  I have been slowly getting ready for the winter season that will come quicker than you know.  There is a lot of preparation in the mountains when you live in an area that gets 20 degrees and lower in the winter months.

"Of all the seasons, Autumn offers the most to man and requires the least of him."

Have a lovely October week.

What are those swirly cookie sheets called? What do they do? Heat more evenly, I am guessing!

Good morning, friends.
Wow what a nice Autumn post. The trees are so pretty as they show off their Fall beauty. Down here in the valley, it’s been nice. Today in the low 80’s but it does get down to the 50’s once the sun dips down before the western mountains.
I love Mexican pastries and cookies. Yum. They were readily available in my hometown where you could always find them, but not so much here. Your deer pictures are precious! I have quite a few doves that visit our feeder. I used to raise the white doves long ago - sweet gentle creatures. I’m the same way with some of my son’s books. I even have a few books I loved as a child. And a couple from when my mom was a child. That ghostie photo by Jess is funny. Good neighbors are nice to have. I’m wishing you another good week - and more time to enjoy the Autumn and bake more cookies! 🍪 Take Care, Sheri.

What a wonderful and varied post. The pastries look so good. I believe the large on is a Concha. I love your fall quote. How great that you look after a neighbor who is alone, I can't imagine how lonely and frightening that would be. I love the double ghost photo. and your son looks like an excellent cook. an English breakfast, SO yummy!!!

I honestly don't know where to start - I loved everything about your post.
The meme - I do know that feeling when things are quiet and you have the hot cup of coffee - and you feel things are just right.
I love the red and yellow leaves - we do not get a lot of red here.
Doves and deer are so cool to have so close to you. Nature, I think brings you closer to God. The cookies looked delicious. I have never seen any pastries like that. Interesting. And the spicy stew - might be too much for me - I don't or can't do spicy.
I remember the Berenstain Bears and we probably had that same book. Ghosty and vampire teeth are perfect for Halloween. I watched the Christmas Contract too - it was cute. Interesting you have to start preparing for winter so soon. We really do not have to do anything except turn off the water at the hose. We are just now in the high 70's. My favorite thing is that you have friends there and that you are looking out for each other.

What an autumnal splendor, the tree photos are breathtaking. A beautiful picture of Nel and Mia. Nel is wearing an outfit in autumn colors.
I also watch Christmas movies, I love it. I've seen some of them a few times and will watch them again this year.
The last photo is enchanting.

Happy new week xoxox

Oh Sheri, your color is just so dazzling! Fall has come to your world. And your home must be so cozy and warm with all that delicious baking going on. Yum -- dinner at your house looks wonderful. That was kind to give away the art to your neighbor and I loved all the photos of the kids! (I know what you mean about the books.)

Dear Sheri,

The autumn colour in the trees is wonderful. Nature in all its glory brings such joy into these shortening days.

And, we are definitely of the camp that cannot bear to part with books. We have some English language secondhand bookshops in Budapest to which we give some paperbacks ever now and then, but this still makes little impact on our overflowing bookcases.

All your family seems to be entering into the spirit of the season in their own highly individual ways. Never a dull moment, we are sure.

There is only one part of this post that mystifies us...the 'English Breakfast'....this takes bacon, eggs, tomatoes and baked beans to a whole new level...

The beauty of those trees brought a big smile to my face today. We don't have trees in color yet..hopefully soon!! I am a soup girl and this picture looks wonderful. This is one thing I love about Fall and winter...SOUPS!! The girls are just as cute as can be and they are really growing. I have boxes of books that I purchased when even my girls were little..Corduroy is one of my favs. So glad I saved them for my grands now. Can you believe it is already the third week in October? time is flying by. Big hugs for you Sheri

Dear Sheri,
Thank you for sending a message to demystify me about the breakfast. I am so short-sighted that I really could not tell what was what and the bacon is hiding. Now I see it. How wonderful to have a son who makes such a wide range of delicious meals...he would be welcomed with open arms here!!

Sheri - can I come visit and have one of your delicious oatmeal cookies? They are just a wonderful treat for fall...the deer are absolutely the sweetest and your granddaughters look like they are into the full swing of Halloween. I can see how it might be hard to part with those old story books you so enjoyed reading to your girls...perhaps someday your granddaughters will enjoy reading them to their wee ones. All your fall photos are so beautiful. You certainly are showing much more color than we are seeing here. I think our dry summer has hurt our fall colors. Well have a wonderful October day. Hugs!

Hi Sheri,
Thanks for visiting my blog. Always nice hearing from you. The weather has changed and it is nice here too. Your pastries look yummy. As always you and your make yummy things. I gave all my books to my Granddaughter. I read them so many times too to my kids. They were special stories. I kept my own books I had as a kid. It is fun to re read books now as an adult. Brings back memories of childhood. I hope your weekend is beautiful! Enjoy!

Hi dear Sheri....Love your header. Your cookies look great and baking is a super way to warm up the house. Believe it or not, I have not put the heat on yet. Gosh, the trees are gorgeous there. I had no idea northern California had such beautifully colored autumn trees. Hope you enjoy each moment of this season. Have a wonderful weekend! Hugs. Susan
