The Old And The New

Some birds came to see me recently,
and the yellow and red ones are my favorite.

I have to show you the wine bottle that Jess got me.  It has a rose label on the front, and the glass bottom is in the shape of a rose, it's so cool.  We always have a cheese ball with crackers every year around the holidays.

These flowers were on Jess' bedside when she came in to visit.  They are from a bush outside my front yard.  Do you know the name of them?  (camellias maybe?)

The trees are all bare now, and it's getting so cold.

The birds are making their nests, finding shelter from the cold.  And what better place to make their home than the drive through at Starbuck's?

Do you remember the vintage Radio Flyer red wagons?
I think they came out in the 1930's.

Well, look who got a Radio Flyer red wagon!
It was a gift from her other grandma.  And the wheels are huge, so they can take long walks on the beach.

Somebody's kissing under the mistletoe.

2020, the start of a new decade.  Is this going to be a good year?  I've had many difficult times throughout this year, but Jess knows that I believe through all those hard times, that blessings still come my way every day.  This may be my favorite present of all.

The train passing by with its whistle blowing tells me
"all is right with the world."

Oh, what is it?.....what is it about the rose?  Even a wilted dry old rose is pretty to me.  It reminds me that even old things are beautiful - old houses, old clothes, old furniture, and especially old people.  We tend to focus on the new, and we have to keep up with the newness of everything.  I am wishing you so much goodness in the new year, and I hope you get some new things, and maybe mix them with the old.

And remember,
a good cup of coffee makes everything better
even on a crappy day.  ; )

Sheri, Hugs to you. I loved your bird pictures. Oh your little grandgirl is adorable in her red wagon. I love to hear train whistles too. When I lived near the track that runs thru our town...on very heavy snow days , when the train went by, I knew there were others out there in the world. Made me not feel so lonely. The sweet warm days we were having are slowing leaving. Last night we lost power in 20 mile an hour winds. Thank God not for long. I need to move back to town. You can leave the water running in town without power but not in the country. I always fear frozen pipes. :) I know it's not long till Spring and I am looking forward to it. LOL. Blessings to all of you, stay healthy honey. xoxo, love, Susie

I am looking forward to a new year. I hope it is a good one too. I recently saw a wine glass that was the shape of a rose with leaves on the sides too. I have several old wagons. They are so fun. That new wagon is really nice. I like the sides on it too! I have a picture of my brother and I in a wagon at my grandparents house. I am going to have to dig that out. It was a lot more fun being a kid then an adult with all the worries etc.

I remember the Red Radio Flyer - lots of nice memories - I hope she has some too. So the wine - was it delicious? It was a beautiful bottle. And that mama cardinal - dressed in green to make her less seen. I love Starbucks too - I think we have that in common. Sorry you had some hard times in 2019 and I think 2020 is going to be a great year - I feel it for me too!

Be back soon!
Happy 2020 to you!

We bought that same wagon for Valerie on her first birthday back in 2005. We still have it stashed away in the attic.

Well, here I am having my daily coffee while I read your beautiful blog. Happy New Year Sheri! So many good things you share today: a little red wagon is a great memory for me too, our kids had one of those. The rose in the wine bottle is fantastic, I want one of those too :)
You know I love birds, and those little guys sure are appealing with the yellow and red. Do you know what they are? I do not know them at all. As for the birdies at Starbucks, that made me smile - birds are quite funny characters at times. I wonder if they enjoy the smell of the coffee. xx

Good morning dear, dear friend.

You are right. OLD is good, old is necessary for the remembrance of not just PAST but of the future. How can we ever make "progress" in our faith, in our hope, in our love, in our reason for being if we don't understand our histories?

And old rose tells a big story. The falling leaves, the dormant trees, they all appear old to the eye, but when spring comes, all things are made mature. May 2020 be indeed a good year as each of us tries out best to make someone's day a little better.

We bought a wagon just like that for our grandson's first birthday several years ago. It still does double duty in his garden and yard.
Love, love your bird pictures! Good job capturing them.
Yes, camellias! I have lots of buds, but none blooming quite yet.
Happy New Year to you all.

Good morning dearest Sheri!!! Thank you for coming to visit my "before" and "after" photos. I haven't taken any new photos yet because there are still a few tweaks to be done in certain parts of the house. I had fun yesterday with that old front room of ours that has remained untouched for 23 years. We finally got to the kitchen but this front room really needs a paint job and two window replaced, but what I did yesterday really changed the space and if we can get those windows replaced AND painted white (I don't care for the old orangy tone of the wood) then the room will be exactly what I want.

All these years in this house....who would have known that we'd find so many moments of sheer joy. HAPPY 2020!

I'm enjoying a hot cup of coffee as I read your post. The beside blossoms are lovely. The wine bottle was cute. I hope that you enjoyed the wine inside. It's nice to receive visits from 'flighty' friends. I get visits from cardinals and they really add joy to my day. Have a richly blessed new year.

Sheri, I do not know why I am so slow getting here....I know I have been off kilter lately. I don't know where to start...I LOVE the photos of the birds...you sure got some great captures. They would make a nice series to frame if you had a place to put them.

I think I would have to keep that wine bottle....it is beautiful...and love the mistletoe shot.

Lorelei had a radio flyer like that...they sure are handy.

Your bird pics are just so amazing.
My husband loves birds so much
we have quite a few in the house.
Your bird pics reminded me of the movie THE BIG YEAR
which star Steve MArtin and Jack Black.
I'm sure you will love this movie,
watch it if you still haven't.
The roses look divine, but I do not like the
tree pics because they are dark and makes me
feel a little sad inside by looking at the,
it's just me though.

Have a great year ahead ♥

Sheri - What a wonderful picture of your sweet granddaughter. That wagon is awesome. Looks like Santa was very good. Your birds look like they are finches. We have yellow ones here and then the red ones we call purple finches (hmm? wonder why red makes them purple finches :)!!). Sounds like Sheri you and I may have had the same kind of year. God is good and we are blessed. Let us keep the faith friend - Hugs!

Amen to that! No matter how much we are struggling in our lives, we can rejoice in the fact that we will come out changed {stronger/better} in the end. And of course, coffee helps tremendously! :P
{looooove the wagon shot!}
