Apple Hill

The whole family took a drive to Apple Hill this weekend.  Jess thought it would be a nice place to get together for Francesca's second birthday.  Almost everyone that lives in northern California knows about Apple Hill.  It's the largest Apple Farm of Placerville.  It has everything apple - apple pie, apple cider, caramel apples, and apple doughnuts.

We used to go here when the kids were little, so they have wonderful memories.  There's a fishing pond with ducks, and Nel vividly remembers running down the hill that leads to the pond when she was a toddler.

Jess set up a nice picnic table there with food and drinks.

Francesca's other grandma made the cake, a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting.  She makes the most delicious and moist cakes, and when I took a bite, I said one thing, "magic."

The cousins were both wearing their red plaid, which wasn't planned.

I loved Mia's mountain boots.  ; )

We walked through the craft shops, and Nel came across the biggest apple.

Nel and Jess sitting next to granny.

And it's my turn.

When we were browsing through the shops, we noticed a sign that really got to me.  This song reminds me of my Dad, and the last time we were all together walking through a craft fair, we heard the same song.

Francesca was tuckered out at the end of the day.

Thank you, Jess, for planning such a nice get together
with the family.

~and I think to myself,
what a wonderful world.

My first cousin and his wife have lived in Placerville for years. That is funny. So Francesca was the little one born in GA right? Her mom a blonde now - I am trying to catch up with things in my head. lol That cake was so gorgeous - she does beautiful work. That cheese and fruit cake was so beautiful too!
You do have a wonderful life! That is cool.

Oh! Apple Hill! We used to live in Placerville! Of course, Apple Hill is really in Camino, up the road. But it is a lovely place...it was sad we had to move, some 37 years ago....we live in So. Calif now....
We still miss Apple Hill....there are places where we can do the same kinda thing...but it isn't quite the same. Looks like you had a grand time.

Isn't it funny how songs are so powerful...they take you instantly to another place and time.

The girls are adorable...both the granddaughter and your daughters. That seems like such a nice place to visit. the cake is almost too pretty to eat.

What a wonderful way to celebrate. Love their matching red plaids. The cake is indeed lovely. I have heard of this place by many family members that live in the Sacramento area. Many family traditions for visiting there. How fun to also have a picnic there too. Just lovely!
