First Light

Yes, I am a dreamer

For a dreamer is one who
can find his way by moonlight

and see the dawn
before the rest of the world
~Henry David Thoreau

sunrise on Easter

I saw this candle
at Michaels many times
before I bought it.
Finally,
I brought it home.

Have a lovely Sunday.

Tea And Scones

I went to my friend, Anne's, house yesterday.  She served tea and scones.  For me, it was green tea with lemon, and for her it was ginger.  The scones were really good.  They had raisins, and she drizzled an icing on them with almonds.  She likes scones better than cookies because they have less sugar.

Anne is French-Canadian, like me, and she knows a bit of French still from her youth.  She told me that when she lived in Canada, they taught in French and English, they spoke in French and English, but the prayers were said in French only.  She remembers them all, and I asked her to say them for me, and she did.  Nel and Jess, since you are learning French right now, you would have found it so interesting to hear these prayers in French that have been said for two thousand years.

Anne always makes me feel at home whenever I visit her.  She is kind and funny, and I appreciate her friendship more than she knows.

My Rock

Since Mother's Day is coming up, I wanted to tell you a little about my own mother.  She had a petite frame of body, but a strong nature.  She was funky too, and used to say things to the grandkids that would blow them away.  It was just second nature to the siblings, we were used to it haha.

the grandkids

She was so creative, and enjoyed working on projects around the house.  One time when I had a birthday/slumber party, she made small individual pizzas for each of the girls.

She sewed many of my clothes growing up, and when I had a special function to go to, she made me the cutest blouses and dresses to wear for it.

When the kids and grandkids got into any trouble or acted up, she always kept her cool.  It amazed me how steady she was, even in the most difficult situations.

She lived simply - didn't have a lot of clothes or jewelry, but when she did go out, she always looked nice, and even wore eyeliner well into her 70's.

She cooked and cooked, and to this day, the girls make her homemade enchiladas on special occasions.

One day, I was having a really bad day, and while driving in the car with a couple of my siblings, I got upset about something and heated words were exchanged.  I just got out of the car and started walking home (in the middle of the road).  All of a sudden, my mom gets out of the car and walks right along beside me.  She didn't care if she had the proper clothes or shoes to walk in, she just got out and walked.  I'll never forget that.

She was/is my rock,
and I wanted to say a few words
to honor the special woman
I called mom.

Intrigue

I think taking pretty pictures is nice, but it's also fun taking interesting pictures, ones that are intriguing and unusual.  My friend, Jeanie, at The Marmelade Gypsy reminded me of this just by taking her unique and wonderful photos.   So, here are a mix of both lovely and intriguing things I've seen around here in April.

At the public library

Take time just for yourself
once in awhile.

At the trail

Friendly lady at Starbucks

Have we seen the last
of the rain in
northern California?

Inside my church -
the stained glass flames
represent the seven virtues.

At the rose garden

Nel knows I love Starbucks,
and sent me a gift card,
just because.
My gnome makes me happy
just looking at him.

Speaking of unusual pictures,
Nel's husband, Renecke,
played around
and made this picture of
their dog, Ozzie.
They really do treat him like a king.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Laughing Jesus

When I was in my friend, Joy's, office one day, I noticed a sketching on the wall, and I gazed at it for a long time.  It was a drawing of Jesus laughing.  Now, we don't see a lot of paintings or drawings of Jesus laughing, so I really liked this one.  We can imagine in his lifetime He laughed, perhaps at the wedding at Cana, or when children surrounded him to hear him teach, or maybe when He went fishing with his friends and they caught a bounty of fish.   I wish there were more pictures out there showing the fun side of Jesus as well.  I liked this so much, that my friend, Joy, gave it to me.  I wanted to share it with you, and wish you a Happy Easter, friends.

I found this saying many years ago that I attached to the sketching to remind me always to laugh.

love to you on Easter,

I See Them Bloom For Me And You

I see trees of green,

red roses too

I see them bloom
for me and you

And I think to myself
what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue

and clouds of white

Nel took this photo

The bright blessed day

the dark sacred night

And I think to myself
what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow
so pretty in the sky

Are also on the faces
of people going by

I see friends shaking hands
saying how do you do

They're really saying
I love you

Jess took this photo

I hear babies cry,
I watch them grow

They'll learn much more
than I'll ever know

And I think to myself
what a wonderful world

Yes, I think to myself
what a wonderful world.
