Broken Wing

I just bought this angel,

and when I brought him in from the car, I noticed this!  How did I miss that?  I guess I was so busy looking at the bottom of the statue for chips, that I didn't see that his wing was broken.

Since Mother's Day is coming soon, I thought I'd put a necklace on him.  My son gave this to me for Mother's Day when he was little.

He has such a sweet face.

I have a thing about chips and broken items, so I was going to return him, but then I thought to myself,  "we have all been shattered at one time or another in life, well most of us, so it doesn't matter if the wing is broken.  He represents each and every one of us."  So, this little boy statue will stay in my home.  He makes me smile.  : )

So true a view. So very true.

And none of us, are perfect, on any day. To me, this is very reassuring. I don't feel it is the nature of humans, to be perfect. We are always becoming. Always changing.

I don't want to achieve "perfection." It would signal that I was "done." And I don't want to be "done." I have a lot more living to do! :-)

What a sweet little statue. Without the close-up I couldn't see the broken wing but I don't think it matters. I have my share of not perfect things around the house. Some I broke, some my kids broke, some were handed down to me that way and yes, I've even bought things that were less than perfect. Love the little necklace too.

You are so right, Sheri! We are not perfect and neither are others. What a great lesson to reflect on. I have a little angel that has a broken wing that happened when we had an earthquake. I was able to repair him, but I too debated whether to keep him. Your special mother's necklace from your son looks beautiful on your angel! ♥

What a sweet little fella. The necklace is perfect there. You made me smile with your words of wisdom. I love what you said, "we have all been shattered at one time or another in life, so it doesn't matter if the wing is broken." ENJOY him each and every moment that he spends there with you.

I learned a great lesson last Sunday when I was photographing my friend at the home of a dear woman whose antiques spoke to me. It sounds trite, but those broken pieces she has strewn across her floors, tables and chairs added such a beauty not only to the photos I took, but we had a conversation about this "brokeness." Yes, we are all broken and will one day be broken "relics." Only those who appreciate antiques at this level might get this idea, but I've come to learn that there's nothing wrong with a wonky table leg, a broken wing.

I just bought a fun French settee from my friend Clara, and I love its age. It is in perfect condition with the exception of one small crack on the arm. However, the entire piece gives my home the LOOK I WANTED....a comfortable, French country look that can't be made with new furniture. So whatever the item, whoever the life, brokeness IS beautiful.

imperfection, i've found, is a thing of beauty.
your angel is lovely in its current condition.
my wings have been clipped, bruised, beaten,
and torn. God makes all things beautiful in His time.

and i love the necklace. what a blessing to add that
to your angel. sweet adornment.

Hi Sherry,
Such a beautiful little angel. I would not even think of fixing the broken wing.. I think it adds such soul to the piece.. I visual reminder that even when we are broken, it does not effect our hearts.. After all, it's what's on the inside, not the exterior, right? Beautiful post Sheri.

Thank you for visiting.. Ok, that red rose is the one on the side of my house. The french rose is in the backyard. I am so happy you enjoyed.
Enjoy your weekend.
blessings,
Penny

What a precious thought, my friend. You are right, none of us are perfect and in some way or another we have scars, breaks, and hurts. Your angel is perfect the way he is and I'm glad you're keeping him :)

I also love the sweet necklace as it adds the perfect touch. Love and hugs to you!

Hi Sheri, I'm so glad you decided to let the angel stay with you and have a home even with the broken wing. What a delight with the necklace your son gave you. I love this display. We all have imperfections and this is a reminder that life can still be beautiful. Lovely post my friend.
Thank you for stopping by and your kind comment. So nice to see you and have you visit. I have missed you!! Enjoy the teacup/mug exchange visits.
Love to you, xo
