Most of the blog friends that we have are from different states or countries, so I thought it would be interesting to them to see our State flower, the California Poppy.
The petals are thin, and the color is a vibrant lovely orange. I saw a few blooming on a hillside one day while taking a walk.
HELLO THERE SUNSHINE! Does this bring back memories to me, or what! Our state flower here in Minnesota I believe is the aster. It is a late bloomer, just like ME! So it is appropriate that I live here....
How are you dear one? Having a sunny Sunday? Blessings to you sweet Sheri, Anita
I love the pop of color that poppies give to a planting area. Wisconsin State flower is the Trillium and it grows mostly in the woods and shaded areas. It is illegal to pick it or transplant it here. It is white and scented and very pretty. xo Diana
Sheri, I love those poppies, because they seem so different. The peony is our State flower. Indiana. They are pretty in full bloom, but top heavy and one rain can knock them down. It's was very nice here yesterday, cold but sunny. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
Hi Sheri: I love poppies. They are one of my favorite flowers. There is only a short period of time in late Spring, that our poppies bloom. I wish they would last longer, but that makes me enjoy them all the more. The New Jersey state flower is the The Common Violet. Viola sororia). And it's purple. :)
Sheri dear-I'm so happy to be back and in touch with all my blog friends. I so appreciate your sweet comments during my travels. As for my state flower-it's the poppy too. Aren't they a gorgeous shade of happy? Love your photos and your roses on V.Day-so romantic! xx, H
Sheri- Such a sunshiny happy flower and the petals almost look like paper. I even see some dew drops on them. Just look at all of this sunshine and green! Oh I love it all, just perfect for a Sunday evening. Hope your weekend has been lovely~ Love, Jemma P.S. Our State flower is the Bluebonnet.
What lovely poppies. Pretty indeed. To tell you the truth I do not know our state flower here. But when we lived in Maryland it was the black-eyed-susan.
What a beautiful poppy Sheri! Born and raised in California, mine is the same.. They are such a pretty little flower, don't you think? I am so sorry your allergies are kicking up.. I hope you feel better soon. It was such a joy to see you had come over to say hello to Bebe.. She was waiting for you.. teeheee Your kind words just warmed my heart! blessings, Penny
What a pretty and unique looking flower! Does it bloom in other colors, too? Lovely! I grew up in Mississippi with the amazing magnolia as the state flower. It smells amazing! Hugs, Patti
Wow, what a lovely flower is California Poppy. I love orange always. Our State flower, for Queensland, Australia, is the Cooktown Orchid, which is a pretty pink/mauve colour.
Yes, we too have those lovely orange California Poppies. I bought some poppy plants which are growing , but will not flower for a while, i'm excited to see them, they are Himalayan Poppies and they are Blue… I do hope that they grow well and bloom. Have a great week Sheri! XOXO Mary
Aww I love poppies Sheri, especially as they are the namesake of our beloved cat Poppy whom we lost last year.
These ones are such pretty colours. I'm not sure if there is a flower for the county of Dorset where we currently live, but hailing from Lancashire we have the red rose of Lancaster. Hence, the famous War of the Roses in the 1400's between the houses of York and Lancaster.
Now that you mention it - I'm not sure if we have a national flower... well, there's the carnation which became a symbol when ditatorship led way to freedom - there's a iconic image [if you google revolução de abril] you will see a boy putting a red carnation in a soldier gun - and then there are the roses coming straight from Saint Elizabeth of Portugal apron so I guess it's pretty much a symbol of our people... I'd never seen an orange poppy. Ever. Ours are red. Deep red. Pretty much in the same shape, with the same petals as yours... time comes some might grow in my garden before husband cutting them with the lawn or being trampled by the dogs ahahah. We even have that traditional/national branch people arrange on Thursday of the Ascension... But I can't pinpoint a "our" flower. Wishing you a lovely, happy and bright week like that orange poppy, Teresa
I just saw that you visited, and you are just one of my best blogging friends! When you come to visit, I always feel so happy, and first of all, I hope you are feeling better soon. My husband is really sick and stayed home two days last week, but went in today for a very long day into the late evening. There IS a bug going around here and there where you live!
You are an angel. Your words of friendship are always at the right time for me, and I thank you. Be well, sleep tight and thinking of you...Anita
Hi Sheri, your California poppy is a beautiful bloom. The bright color is so gorgeous. My grandmother could grow poppies in her Michigan garden. I think she was blessed with a green thumb. She loved them in her Italy home and wanted them in the states.
We enjoy the Texas Bluebonnets as our state flower. Indian paintbrush flowers are often seen growing among the bluebonnets and the contrast is stunning.
Love the post below too. So many wonderful things to explore there and I love the free library. What a grand idea.
Have a great week sweet friend. Love and Blessings!
I love poppies! They are so delicate, yet bold in color...gorgeous. Our flower in Minnesota is the ladyslipper! Very pretty... I look forward to all of the blooms so much...first we get the crabapple flowers, then come the lilacs, and late summer...peonies! All so beautiful... Hugs, - Irina

We don't have State flowers in Holland, but if I could choose one I surely pick this lovely Poppy, also because orange is the happiest color!
Hugs,

Those are so beautiful! The Thistle is the floral emblem of Scotland. I love the bright purple thistles that grown like weeds in my town :)
