Years ago, my mom had a desire to do some traveling. She just said one day, "I'm going to visit Egypt." We were all a bit surprised because she was 70 years old. She has always been interested in their culture and felt "connected" with it. We were so happy she got to take this trip of a lifetime, and we were even more excited when she brought back gifts for us.
A pretty decorative box.
Some earrings with Egyptian symbols on them.
This is her having fun in the shops while looking for clothes and different accessories.
She rode the camels, ate delicious foods, and had a wonderful time.
Is there a place that you long to go to, and a place you just feel "connected" to?
"A beautiful thing is never perfect."

What a wonderful thing to do at her age. Me I do not want to travel except in an armchair.

Oh, sorry! I forgot to answer the question!
I have always felt deeply connected to France...it's a cliche, but it's my truth. Since I was about ten years old or so...
But, I LOVE belly dancing and the fabulous music, so a connection with the mid-east culture as well, I guess...
What about YOU?
Hi!
Great pic of your mom. I'm glad she got to go and fulfill her dream. Great gifts she brought back, too.
I've always wanted to go to England and Ireland. I'd love to see those old castles.
I appreciated your sweet comments.

I wish someday to visiti Egypt!

SHERI DEAREST! Before I run off to get ready for work, I just wanted to come to see your post....EGYPT! You know where I connect: FRANCE. I have to say that Western Europe is where I feel the greatest connection and anywhere there is where I'd go again...ENGLAND is on my wish list these days, especially the countryside. Where is YOUR place of connection? Anita
Ireland, probably.
I don't know if I feel connected... I haven't been there so now is just a wanting. Nearing the craving, in fact. So I wonder if when I get there one day I'll feel the connection, the belonging feeling...
I find Mother's energy and adventure absolutely wonderful. Delightful. Funny as yesterday I visited Alycia and one circumstance reminded me of this poem:
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens . . .
The ending of the poem pleases its readers when the woman says . . .
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
This dream says to me - wear that "purple" today - follow your dreams, live them in full.
Thank you for sharing, Dear Heart!
Ireland, probably.

Definitely. My favorite place I've never been to is Santorini, Greece. It's my destination for the first day of my retirement (whenever the H^*(*^ that comes!) I've always been obsessed with the intensity of the blue painted domes and doors over looking the equally blue Mediterranean.
Ehat a special post !!!...love to see your mom......love from me...Ria...x !
What a brave and adventurous woman is your Mum, and it looks like she had a fabulous time. There is hope in there for all of us!
Hello dear Sheri.
I think we are never too old or too young to travel. Its wonderful ,your mum looks very happy. We get chances to see how the rest of the world live.
I have been twice in Cairo, Alexandria and villages. I love Egypt, its a country that you never forget. For me to see the problems there at the moment, is so sad. Its a beautiful different country, and the people are so nice.
I have visited many countries in my life. I would at the moment like to visit the US again.. I love Texas and the area of Rio Grande and the Colorado river.. I hope one day I can return there. Its stunning.
I have an inlaid table like your box.
lovely post Sheri,

Hello my dear, dear Sheri!
Greece, but of COURSE that is where you feel connected! You know that when I was a little girl and dreamed of getting married, I always dreamed of my honeymoon as being in Greece. I don't know how I knew of Greece at that young age, but I did see it as a place of great beauty. The mediterranean is a STUNNING coast; I've seen it off the coast of France and Italy. I can only imagine from some fabulous photos, that Greece's beaches are amongst the bluest in the world.
May your dream come true to go there some day! LOVE! Anita
How wonderful that your Mum managed to get to her dream destination and you have some lovely little souvenirs to remember her visit. The Pyramids were on my 'must-visit list' and I was fortunate to go there several years ago. What a fascinating place! You may know from my blog that I lived in France for a year, so I always feel a special connection whenever I go there.
How beautiful. I love the decorative box the most. Egypt must be such a fascinating place to visit. So great that it was such a positive experience.
Hi Sheri, What a beautiful story... We all need to listen to that connection inside us ~ the world would be a better place.
Thank you for stopping by & your kind words,
Cheryl

This will be more beautiful than one could ever imagine!! The PERFECT place~~~Blessings~~Roxie
Hi Sheri!
Thank you so much for stopping by...and yes, that cake IS incredibly moist and one of the best desserts I have ever eaten...actually I think I will post the recipe...it's that good. And EASY to make! Well, the lemon adds a little Greek touch....and you are part Greek? How marvelous!
What is not to love about Greece!? :))
The city of my birth (Odessa, Ukraine) is thought to be an ancient Greek settlement originally...i was so excited when I learned of this fact!
I do hope you will travel to Greece, and live that dream!!
Hugs to you,
- Irina
