King of the Wild Things

To the talented and imaginative Maurice Sendak

"But the wild things cried,
'Oh please don't go - We'll eat you up - We love you so!"
~ Where the Wild Things Are ~

who inspired my love of books at an early age,

“Children do live in fantasy and reality; they move back and forth very easily in a way we no longer remember how to do."
~ Maurice Sendak ~

who showed me how to manage the wild things,

“And the wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws.”
~ Where the Wild Things Are ~

and taught me to always embrace the royal rumpus,

"'And now,' cried Max, 'Let the wild rumpus start!'"
~ Where the Wild Things Are ~

may you be in bliss now after a long and celebrated life.

Oh- How I loved his books. I always thought it was funny that he was such a testy, gruff sort of man but had this wonderful talent that showed itself in children's literature. Huggs- He will be sadly missed. xo Diana

Oh how true. Maurice Sendak was probably one of my first authors that WOKE ME UP as a child. HI NEL! SAY HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY TO YOUR MOM FOR ME! Anita

I have long loved Maurice Sendak. My daughter, now 36 grew up with "Chicken Soup With Rice". It was her favorite book and at age two she had it memorized.

A sad day for all of us! Did you happen to see him on a taped interview that was some time ago for the Colbert show. So funny!

A LOVELY tribute! I recently revisited this story when my children brought the film home from school. It brought back so many childhood memories, and so lovely that my children are now so into reading his work as well. He will be missed. Paula x
