I was driving to Rite Aid recently and noticed a couple of deer in the woods. I thought to myself, "I hope they are still there when I'm driving back." Now, I should tell you that there is a road going to the store, but on both sides of the street there are trees and woods all around. I saw 2 deer in my view driving back, so I pulled over to look. Then, all of a sudden, another sprang from the woods, then another, and another, until there were 7 of them! My heart was filled with joy. I have always thought it was a gift to see a deer, but to see 7!
Then, on Good Friday I was driving to the creek not far from my house. I like to be still on this day and think and pray, so I thought that the creek was a good place to do that. On the road ahead of me, I could see 3 deer crossing the street to get to the other the side of the road. I swiftly pulled over. I drove a bit and turned back around, and then pulled over to get a closer look. And as I was counting, I believe there was 7! I just gazed at them and felt incredibly thankful. The first time I didn't have my camera, but the second time I did, so I got a few pictures. It was hard to see them at first because they were hidden behind the brush,
but then I saw one in the clearing. Oh, it was a beauty, and it was a young one. While the others had their heads bent down, this one stood up straight the whole time and just stared at me.
I sat there for awhile in wonder, and was pleased that I have a home in the mountains now. I did say something to them as I was leaving.....

ReplyDeleteOh, you captured some fantastic photos of those deer! Especially the young one who is so photogenic! I think deer are so pretty. What a treat to see them actually there in nature, with your own eyes! And so many! I have to wonder if it was the same group of deer each time, or more than one family of deer! I hope you get to see them again!

ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful blessing to see the deer and to photograph them, Sheri! At the home we shared with my late mom, I looked down to the creek one day and sa pw a fawn and die using their noses to splash water from the creek in each other. There was one ray of sun lighting up the pair under the thick canopy of trees. Such a blessing to view.
ReplyDeleteI never tire of seeing the deer. Early morning and just before sunset, are when they are most active and are out and about eating. Have to be careful on the highway. I've seen a few that have been hit the last week or so. Sometimes they do dash out on the highway. That always upsets me.

ReplyDeleteOkay, so I came the other day and read your blog. THOUGHT I comment but APPARENTLY I got side tracked and totally did not comment. I love deer. I love to see them out in the wild. Here in Nashville, all over TN they are a common thing for use to see. Bunch of back roads have signs for Deer Crossings. As a child my question was, "how do the deer know to cross here"?...I live in a neighborhood, and I have walked out to see them in my yard or walking down the street. Most of the reason for that is we have so many and all the building in this area is running them closer and closer to live with us. Beautiful, but will play havock on flowers and plants. I love to watch them. I know you are totally enjoying your new place. SO HAPPY FOR YOU.

How beautiful to see the deer - I love to see them and haven't tired of them, even though I see them often, even in my garden (that is not so welcome to be honest, since they eat EVERYTHING). We have a mountain lion here in our woods, so the deer population is being balanced out a bit. Nature at work.
