My Rock

Since Mother's Day is coming up, I wanted to tell you a little about my own mother.  She had a petite frame of body, but a strong nature.  She was funky too, and used to say things to the grandkids that would blow them away.  It was just second nature to the siblings, we were used to it haha.

the grandkids

She was so creative, and enjoyed working on projects around the house.  One time when I had a birthday/slumber party, she made small individual pizzas for each of the girls.

She sewed many of my clothes growing up, and when I had a special function to go to, she made me the cutest blouses and dresses to wear for it.

When the kids and grandkids got into any trouble or acted up, she always kept her cool.  It amazed me how steady she was, even in the most difficult situations.

She lived simply - didn't have a lot of clothes or jewelry, but when she did go out, she always looked nice, and even wore eyeliner well into her 70's.

She cooked and cooked, and to this day, the girls make her homemade enchiladas on special occasions.

One day, I was having a really bad day, and while driving in the car with a couple of my siblings, I got upset about something and heated words were exchanged.  I just got out of the car and started walking home (in the middle of the road).  All of a sudden, my mom gets out of the car and walks right along beside me.  She didn't care if she had the proper clothes or shoes to walk in, she just got out and walked.  I'll never forget that.

She was/is my rock,
and I wanted to say a few words
to honor the special woman
I called mom.

  6. Sheri, I love this about your mother. It was so good that your children had fun times with her. I can tell your children mean the world to you...just as you and your sibling meant to your very own mother. My own mom was far from perfect, but I am telling you I hope I have grown in strength to be as tough. I hope my own daughters have some of that grit in them also. Blessings to you ,love you, xoxo, Susie

  14. What a beautiful tribute to your mother Sheri. She sounds like a very special lady, and I'm sure you have inherited many of her qualities. So many of our mothers made our clothes back in the day. My Mum did that too. You wonder how they found the time. Lovely photos you have shared with us.

  15. There could be volumes written about these women who raised us. You have started well here my friend, to introduce the beginning of what could be a month-long tribute to our mothers. Oh what a beautiful woman, so petite, but those small ladies pack a lot of punch. Mine did. Quiet, stoic, reserved, but she never let me get away with any nonsense as a little kid. Later in life, she let me discover myself, and like your mom, she sewed all my clothes. McCalls, Butterick and Simplicity (her favorite) were household names. Oh how you brought back so many memories!

  21. Aww, this was a beautiful tribute to your mom. Very sweet. You are incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful mom. I grew up mostly with my dad, as my mom left when I was about 10 and was in and out of my life until I was an adult. Now I try to distance myself from her because she's never been very stable and has a lot of issues. I love seeing when mothers and daughters have very close relationships. It warms my heart. I'll be honest though, I do feel a ping of jealousy every time. 💁 Happy early Mother's Day to you!! Hope your Mother's Day is amazing!
