Story Of The Day

I was at church this week, and I noticed some words that were hung on the wall near the pamphlets, fliers, etc.  They said:

ALERT
Sadly, purses have been
stolen during Communion

I thought to myself, I can't believe that.  To think that someone would steal a purse or belongings during the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is beyond my comprehension.  I walked away saddened on how this happens in our world today, and I thought about the desperate ones who feel they have no hope.

Just wanted to share
my story of the day with you.

  3. That is so sad......I never thought I would live in a world like this when I was a little girl. I remember when the church doors were always open to anyone.....now they are locked :O(
    Have a great weekend!!!

  6. Wow, that is wild.

But myself, I don't leave my bag or keys or anything, unattended.

I don't go to church, but we all have to shop for groceries. Never leave one's bag in the cart, and walk away from your cart....
    It's asking for trouble.

But to pick a church, as a place to steal a purse, that is pretty weird.

  7. Unfortunately, such things happen! And usually one is never prepared for it! The important thing is not to stop believing in the good in people! Good people are more!

  8. Some people are so in need that they do things that they normally would not do. But, in a church - that's terrible.
Especially women are targets to these people, so we must be on our toes at all times.
    Have a great weekend Sheri.

  10. Sheri, I think more and more women will be wearing a small across the body type of purse. It is a very sad world. In our state there was a young man dressed in a suit going into churches and stealing things . He's been caught. :):) I try never to leave temptation out for the untrustworthy. When I worked we used to say, "locks help keep honest people honest." So sad but true at times. Blessings to you for a great weekend, love, Susie

  12. That is really unfortunate that is happening in your church. I agree with Bety, you have to focus on the good people in the world.

  13. Sheri,
This makes me sad too. I am getting so I don't understand our world much anymore. I am sorry, I know this was upsetting.
I hope this weekend will be upbeat for you and that your spirits will lift.
    Love,
    Jemma

  14. I'm sure this made you sad Sheri, as it does me. Not just for the women who had their purses stolen, but for the person who stole them. There must be something terribly wrong with their life to do such a thing.

  15. Very sad indeed, Sheri. I have seen similar notices at our inner city Cathedral, where all types of people might wander in. Pleased to say, not in our local parish church! Happy Sunday Sheri! xx

  16. Really sad but unfortunately there is so much suffering in this world, so stressful situations which can lead a person to a bad and uncontrollable behavior.
    Take care of yourselves

  17. This reminds me of the horrific shooting incident in South Carolina. It seems that a church or other place of worship is no longer respected. Imagine that....stealing while in church? This is what worries me, that people think they are doing good by BEING in church, going through the motions, but STEALING? SHOOTING people? I worry that the human ability to detect right from wrong is gravely in danger of being overcome by more evil. Oh Sheri, I am with you!

  18. A sad commentary for sure. Desperate people do desperate things. But so do out and out thieves. You are right to believe there is hope, always hope.

  20. Criminals are always looking for what they perceive as easy targets, so sorry for this upsetting incident.

  21. That is a shame. Probably not even members but know there are easy pickings. I always left my bag behind in the pew, but lately I bring it up with me.

  22. Dear Sheri,
Sad indeed, it's saddening to think that people will prey on those who worship with love in their hearts, Oh but wait ... the innocent 9 killed worshipping in service in SC. I used to believe, OK I was taught Love is stronger than hate ... But anymore I find myself in disbelief that a human soul could ever act in hate. What's next for the person willing to steal a purse from a pew? hopefully it will not escalate into a worst offense to a kind hearted soul looking for peace in mass.
    xo,
    Vera

  23. My dear Sheri, it is very sad indeed. Out of desperation, for they probably don't get any help. I don't know where our world is heading to.
    Sending you hugs,
    Aida

  24. How completely contemptible to do that during holy moments. Today at the health club locker room a lady asked if anyone had seen her keys, and that someone must have stolen them. She was very emotional and crying, and a few moments later I asked her if she had found her keys and she said YES. How good her story ended in this case. To have it happen in church is beyond contempt.
