A Father's Day Story

This story I've shared with just my family, but let's face it, my blog friends mean a lot to me, so I hope you enjoy reading it, as it is one that is close to my heart.

What a Wonderful World

When my dad passed away, I was sad, very sad for a long time after.  I was only 28, and not at all ready to lose someone that was so dear to me.  I would hear this song quite often - What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong, and it reminded me of my dad very much.  I would hear this song in the store while I was grocery shopping, in the car while I was driving, just anywhere I was.  Sometimes I had to walk out of the stores because I couldn't help crying.  One day, I picked up my son from Kindergarten and we stopped at the park.  While he was playing he said, "Mom, I learned a new song at school today."  I said, "Really?  Sing it to me."  He started singing "I see trees of green, red roses too," and I just looked at him in surprise.  After he finished singing he said, "Do you know that song mom?" and as tears ran down my cheek I smiled and said to him, "Yes, I know that song very well."

Thank you for being a
part of my world.

  11. Oh Donna, there are many reasons why we chose the red rose for our blog, but this story isn't one of them.....but I love the fact that it mentions red roses in the song.

Thanks for stopping by. It's always nice to see your face. :~)

  20. Oh- You lost your Dad young----so did I---I was 21 and not a day goes by that I don't miss him. Here's the funniest thing- I am always finding coins in the oddest places...and when I was a kid he used to flip me coins all the time. I always take it as a "sign" that he is around me somehow.

That is a wonderful story about that song! xo Diana

  23. Aw, that is the sweetest story Sheri. I'm sorry you lost your Dad so early in life - my Dad is still alive, at 93, even if he does forget my name these days. That song is very special, and I love singing it at my choir (I will think of you when we sing it at tomorrow's rehearsal) xxx

  26. There's never a good time to loose someone you love. Less if it's such a grand love like the one you shared. We want them to see us grow, then we want them to share the happiness we live (the children, our husband etc etc) and when one get solder and birds start flying off the nest you want them. To care. To share. To Enjoy!
In your case it wasn't meant to be. Hence the song so you feel he's always around, close-by to witness your Life. Your Happiness.

"I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you."

And he does. He still does. Will Always.Everytime someone is good to you and you're great he knows he raised you well, happy and amazing.

    Be Well Dear Friend!

    Love,
    Teresa

  35. And what is so striking is that WE REALLY ARE ALL PART of each others' world, even if we don't know it or ever make contact. My friend, thank you for coming to visit; that book THE WAITING is a must read. I hope you will also read it because it is true, it is miraculous, and the main character is now part of my life. I feel as if she is part of me.

It is gorgeous out here today. Off to clean a little before my husband flies in from Washington! XOXOXOOX
