A Box Of Chocolates

When me and my husband were dating, I went to his house one day to visit him.  His mom brought out a box of chocolates to make me feel special and welcomed.  She went on doing the things she had to do, while me and boyfriend kept on visiting.  I took a bite in one of the chocolates from the box, didn't like the nougat, so put it back.  I took another bite from a new piece and didn't like the filling, and put it back.  I know, who does that, right?  I have to remind you I was only 17, and I guess I just wanted that perfect chocolate.  Boyfriend just laughed at the time, and his family still teases me about it to this day.  Luckily, they are good-humored people and didn't throw me out of the house haha.

I still like the middle of desserts and foods, but now I have a bit more self control and take the piece that was meant for me.  When my kids visit me, I always give them the middle piece of everything.  Now, I want them to have the best.

Won't you have a
piece of cake with me?

  1. Sheri, there is so much poetry potential in this story, OH MY! And it is HILARIOUS! The things we did when we were 17....and I need to remember that since I am working now with 13-17 year olds. They do things and say things that I hope one day in the future, they'll remember and laugh - and learn!!!!!

Have a delicious day my friend!

  4. I am happy, too, they kept you despite THAT ahahahah. Their gain, all around. That way we gained three lovely souls who are simpley the best from the box ;):

"Life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get."

Just in case have a nibble on everything and start by the middle.

You make my life richer with the stories you share. I'm so sorry I'll have to wait for grandchildren before putting them to practice... I don't want them to visit a institutionalized grandma ahahahahah because that's what - hubby and kiddos - would do.

Wishing you a Warm and Safe Weekend. Feel my hug,
    Teresa

  19. I love the idea of putting the pieces of chocolate back in the heart shape box. I tend to like the middle of a dessert myself, especially a fudgy brownie.
I am glad it is raining for you.

  21. Sheri!
    You make me laugh today!

I'm a truffle, nuts and chews kind of girl! Not much for the soft centered chocolates...well maybe mint or raspberry.

I also like the heel of the bread and the outside of the cake.

Do you know what that means?
I would be a perfect friend to share a box of chocolates with, or you would save the last outside piece of cake for me!

Such a sweet little love story you share today!

  22. This story of yours made me smile. If I take a bite and do not like what's inside, I just toss it. And there are usually more I do NOT like, than do.

  25. Sheri,

That is such a sweet and lovely story. I remember when I would visit my husband/boyfriend at his house his mom would send a soda and a homemade cheeseburger down to us (we were in the basement). I thought it was so sweet of her...I hadn't even met her yet when she did this.

I love remembering times like those... she has since past. Everyday I remember something funny she would say or something silly she would do and it always brings a big smile to me. :-)

  30. In the Forrest Gump movie the quote about chocolate was: "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

But I love your funny story... picking the one you love most and yes I like to have a piece of cake with you. Even if it's not the middle part ;)

    Hugs,

  36. Hi Sheri,

How sweet and funny - loved your story and sounds a little like the time when I was little, my Dad used to have preserved ginger in sugar - I would lick the sugar off and throw the ginger away, as it was not to my taste.
    Happy Valentines day, dear friend
    hugs
