Just Listen

From time to time, I told you that I would share some of my favorite poems with you.  This is one of them.

There is a voice inside of you
That whispers all day long,
"I feel that this is right for me,
I know that this is wrong."
No teacher, preacher, parent, friend
Or wise man can decide
What's right for you - just listen to
The voice that speaks inside.

~Shel Silverstein

Have a peaceful
Sunday, my friend.

  4. It's a voice that's difficult to listen to; there are so many others around us that are there to advise, bring down, cheer up, admonest. It is sometimes a great cacophony that can be so confusing we can't hear our own precious little voice !xx

  6. I love Shel Silverstein; his poems resonate within me. Also, his story books. "The Giving Tree" is my favorite. BTW - that Fairy is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

  8. So true, we always know the way to go if we listen to the voice sadly we don't always take the advice given.

  10. I love Shel Silverstein, Sheri, and I bet any one of my three youngest kids (who are now in their 30s) could quote his books verbatim. xo Diana

  11. Perfect sentiments, for Sunday or any day. We need to reflect on what is really happening in our lives, at a deeper level than the superficial which tends to dominate today's world. Blessings Sheri xx

  12. Sheri~

This is the solid, honest truth and so beautifully presented. I always remember my Mother telling me something very similar to this and that I must always listen carefully and never beat that voice down.
    Thank you my dear-
    love,

  17. Good morning darling Sheri! Thank you for coming by last night; Blogland is becoming very quiet on the weekends now, and it sure is good to see your comment this morning before I head out for work.

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING ALREADY? Good for you! I don't have anyone to shop for; my husband is very hard to shop for so we just go out together and he buys what he wants and buys me what I want and that's that! No kids and very few if any friends here make for quiet and uneventful Christmases. We are however, flying out for the first time since we moved away, to California for Christmas (28 years!) My aunt passed away last week and I am unable to make the services this coming week, but I do want and need to see my remaining family members for the holidays.

MUCH LOVE TO YOU DEAR FRIEND! Anita

  20. Hummingbird, Fairy and a Poem - doesn't get much better than this indeed.
Wishing you a Happy Week ahead, full of the voice and also the silence so needed - within, mostly - to enjoy and appreciate it.
    Love,

  21. Sheri,

Beautiful poem and so very true. I've often found that if I listened to my first feeling on something I usually couldn't go wrong. It was always when I second guessed myself or listened to someone else's opinion that I made the wrong choice.

Hope you are having a happy Monday! :-)

  23. Love this poem! I'd like to get your blog again via email. This winter when I was sick I unsubscribed to almost all blogs as they were overwhelming. I don't see anywhere on your blog to subscribe via email. My email is marytimmers@aol.com.

    Thanks, Mary

  24. Hi Sheri,
This certainly is a lovely poem. I love poetry and enjoy reading my poem books alone in my living room while listening to my favorite cd's. My granddaughter has written several beautiful poems and I have them all which I also read over and over. Like your fairy. I too wish you peaceful days. Hugs...Lu
