The Golden State

There are so many things I love about California, but one of my favorites is its natural diversity. You can visit the ocean and mountains all in one day or weekend.

On the Road

Last Saturday, I found this lovely new cafe right on the harbor.

On Sunday, my husband and I decided to take a road trip to Yosemite National Park since we have been wanting to see the park covered in snow. Our state has been getting hit with some big storms, and we wanted to take advantage of our three-day weekend with a sunny forecast.

We found a great last-minute deal at the Tenaya Lodge near the south entrance, which was a beautiful and convenient hotel.

Our View

Although there wasn't a ton of snow, Yosemite did not disappoint. The natural beauty was breathtaking!

A Little Story

I went to the mailbox early in the morning on Valentine's Day, and saw a card from Jess.  I said to myself,  "I'm going to open it after I get my coffee so I can enjoy it"  (I didn't notice the back of the card that said "open when you wake up on Valentine's Day").  So, I got my coffee and goodie and went to the park and opened up Jess' card.   Inside the card was a Starbuck's card!  I smiled big because she knew exactly what I'd like, and even though I couldn't use it at that particular time, I'll use it sometime soon.  : )

I hope you had a nice Valentine's Day, friends.  I got cards and a sweet call from Nel and my friend, Anne, some See's chocolate, and I received a most special gift at the park.

Just Because

Not much going on lately,
as we've had rain
all week!
Here's a few pics of
this and that.

This little guy is
surviving the winter months.

Not sure what this
fountain is all about, as I
see it sometimes
at a church in my town.

Follow the white brick road.

Don't ya love when
Starbucks comes out with
their festive cups?

Camellias at the store.
Everything is looking pretty
around here because
of all the rain.

This really old building
was turned into
a place which is now
'wine night.'

There are no roses
left at the Rose Garden,

only a few cheerful flowers.

Went back to Target
and got a few more felt envelopes,
and a card in the mail
from a blog friend.

I'll leave you with a song
I heard the other day.
My dad loved this song.
It's upbeat, and just right for
Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day,
mom and dad!

What I Don't Understand

I had a conversation with two cashiers a couple days ago at a store, and some boy had just stolen a sweatshirt and a pair of socks, and got in trouble for it, and there was a bit of chaos going on in the store at the time.  This is how the conversation went.

me:  "we have to remember when we were kids."
cashier 1:  "I never stole."
cashier 2:  "I never stole.  My mom would have locked me up in my room for a year."
me:  "I never stole either, but maybe he has a different lifestyle.  He's still young, he's still learning."
cashier 2:  "I don't think he's a kid, he's 19."
me:  "I'm 55, and I'm still learning.  He's still learning."
cashier 1:  "Have a nice day."

What I don't understand is why are so many people quick to judge, when they have a multitude of sins themselves?  I've asked myself this question for years.  It puzzles me.  The world can be so hard sometimes, and if I can make it a little softer, I'll try.

Step Into Nature With Me

Since it's almost Valentine's Day,
I thought I'd share a
few pics of love in nature.

One little flower left at
the Rose Garden.

Huge rock at the park

Very strange trees

Withered dried-up roses...
but they still say
love to me.

A twig in the shape of a cross,
the most precious love
of all.

Enjoying nature lately?

A Sweet Walk

I was at the park this morning enjoying my coffee, and an old woman (maybe in her 80's) gets out of her car all alone in this big world and takes her dog on a walk.  The park trail is long, but she managed to make it all the way with her dog on its leash and steering her walker in front of her.

Every now and then, she would stop and untangle the dog's leash from her walker.

I thought to myself,  "what is her story?"   She must have had many joys in life, but possibly many sorrows as well.    She must have seen a lot in all her years.  She was beautiful.  And she made me appreciate the world just by being in it.

When I was driving home, this song came on, and I used to love it back in the 80's.

To the old,
and the young,
you're special.....
and don't let anyone tell you different.

Felt Envelopes

I never cared for these two colors together, but when I saw these felt envelopes at Target, I thought they were so cute.

They are BIG, and you can put notes, cards, and letters inside.  I filled mine with special cards from Nel and Jess, sister, best friend, and a few blog friends.

When I was little, I didn't get that many toys, but my mom did buy me colored construction paper, felt, scissors, glue to be creative and make things.  As soon as I got the paper, I went to town making festive cards and notes, especially around the holidays.

I came across this card I made for my dad at 10 years old, and I was surprised that he kept it all those years.  I used macaroni shells on it.  It's faded and smudged, but it's a part of my childhood, so I'll keep it always.

I think these felt envelopes would be so nice for Nel and Jess to put their wedding keepsakes in.  They were only $1, so I may go back and get a  couple more.
