Items For Sale

After mass a couple weeks ago, there was a long table set up outside and a woman was selling items from her homeland, Bethlehem.  There were many carved statues, crosses, and even some jewelry.  The woman was telling me that in her area there are only 2% Christian right now, and she is trying to raise money to help build the church and keep it going.   I thought, "to have something from Bethlehem would be so special."  My friend, Anne, was with me and wanted to buy me something.  She said I could pick anything I'd like.   Now, these items were expensive, cause the wood was hand carved, so I went back and forth trying to choose my favorite one.  I saw a statue that was beautiful and another one that I couldn't decide on.  This one was $70, and the other was $30.  Anne told me to get them both.  She spent $100 on me that day - can you imagine?   This one is mine, and the other I will give the baby as a Christmas present.

Look at all the detail in the wood.

Now, I have something from Bethlehem
that I will treasure forever.

Sheri, What a wonderful gift from your friend. It will be so sweet for the new baby to have statue too. I know this will help the lady raise money also. You know we all have something from Bethlehem...God's gift to us all. :):) I do love that precious statue you chose....the carving is amazing. The smoothness of Mary's face, unbelievable. Blessings to you sweet girl, xoxo, love, Susie

Such beautiful and thoughtful gifts from your friend and how special to give one to the baby. We recently attended an estate sale where the couple had a house full of hand carved items in Olive Wood from Jerusalem.

What gorgeous gifts to receive from a friend. A true treasure to keep close to your heart for the years to come...and how wonderful to have a special treasure like that for the new baby.

Just a thought- I always buy the Fisher-Price nativity for a new baby. They won't play with it the first year but they will grow up handling it and loving it. One of them plays music when you push the star down on top. It is a really sturdy set and now even my teen/tweens drag theirs out and set it up a Christmas. I have a really good nativity set, too, but the kids' one is always special.

Hope you are feeling better---xo Diana

I know you will treasure that special gift, Sheri. The carving is beautiful. Is it olive wood? I know many pieces from Bethlehem are. What a generous friend you have! It's so nice you have a piece for the baby's room as well. ♥

Oh Sheri, what a precious gift you have received, a beautiful piece from Bethlehem. It is gorgeous, beautifully carved, and to meet somebody from Bethlehem is also very special. I was sad to read that statistic: only 2%, I never would have guessed that. We call Australia a very secular country these days, and I am sometimes made to feel eccentric because I practice my faith and sing at Mass. Somehow I imagine the Holy Land is still full of Christians.

Very beautiful dearest Sheri. What a heart of gold this woman has, to want to build up her church. As I see your treasure here, I am thinking of my own treasures. Though I've never been to Bethlehem, my fondest treasure is from there. Jesus.

Have a blessed day.

Oh my GOODNESS, Sheri. Anne is such a kind and generous friend. Wowsers. You know what? The people from Bethlehem were here, too, in Massachusetts! The wares were too expensive for me, though. Truly. One year I did buy a little manger scene ---very small---but this year, I had to decline. Your Mary is lovely and I'm sure the gift was beautiful, too. Thanks for sharing. Hugs. Susan
