Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wednesday, which is the start of the Lenten season that leads to Easter for Christians.  Ashes are placed on the heads of Christians at church services on Ash Wednesday.  The words that are traditionally used to accompany this gesture are,  remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.  This is a little church that I used to go to when I was very young.  It was a Catholic Church many years ago, but now they use it for wedding ceremonies.

The Pink Blossom trees grace all the streets in my town, and they are soooo pretty.  It was hard to take a picture while driving, so I took one in the side view mirror of my car when I came to a stop.

This is a shadow
of two street signs that came
together to look
like a cross.  I thought it
was perfect for today.

Sheri, I also went to a small Catholic Church, although it still houses the parishioners. It is a good distance from where I now live, but t would be nice to attend Mass there. Your pix are very appropriate for Ash Wednesday...:)JP

I love taking pictures of churches. Each one is so unique. I love your childhood one. It is charming. The pretty pink blossoms are lovely. Are they fragrant too? That sign was the perfect message for today, indeed.

There is something so special about a white wooden church with a steeple. They always make me want to slip inside and just sit quietly.

Beautiful trees in bloom, are they cherry trees?

I love your Ash Wednesday photos, Sheri. Well spotted with the shadow cross, and those glorious trees speak of Springtime. What a pretty little church, and beautifully preserved too.

Great series and thx for sharing! I believe that shots like your street signs are not an accident, rather something we should always take note of. And even better when we can capture the moment to last a life time.
