Your Sacred Space

It is essential for me
to get back to
nature in the new year.

There was a frost on the
lawns in my neighborhood.
This is as close
to the snow as it gets
living here. ; )

The magpies have
unusually long tails.

The skies with their
grey clouds... but have been
so pretty lately.

I often see this white
horse while driving on the
country road close by.
How I wish I could ride him.

Listen to the trees
as they sway in the wind.
Their leaves are
telling secrets.  Their bark
sings songs of olden
days as it grows around the
trunks.  And their
roots give names to all things.
Their language has
been lost.
But not the gestures.

~Vera Nazarian

Not sure what bird makes
its nest here.

Got a close up of this
fellow, as he
passed right by me.

Your sacred space is
where you can find yourself
again and again.

~Joseph Campbell

That would be nature, for me.

Nature is the place to find peace, dear Sheri. You have a wonderful area filled with unique beauty. I love the tree all stark and down to its bare nakedness. Lovely contrast. And seeing the turkey is fun! We had quite a hard frost this morning and it does resemble snow. Have a peace filled new year, my friend! xo ♥

I also feel the need to be close to nature in the New Year… after all the glitz and sparkle of the holidays … in fact first thing this morning , I was in the garden pruning the roses. It felt so good. I love your nature pictures Sheri… Happy New Year!!!

I agree, Sheri, there's nothing like being outdoors and enjoying nature close up. Wow, that white horse really is beautiful, I can see why you like him so much... :)

Sheri, I loved your pictures. You always get good bird photos. That gnarly tree is wonderful. I like being outdoors. Today the sun was shining although the temps were in the 20's...I sat on the porch with the sun on my face and said my prayers. I loved it. It always feels like a kiss from God when I feel the warmth of the sun on a cold day. Your lawn looked nice with it's frost. Blessings, love you, Susie

The tree you pictures is beautiful Sheri! I've always been fascinated by trees, particularly ones that have interesting shapes like that one. I've been seeing quite a few like that while traveling down to Florida, especially in Savannah.

Happy New Year Sheri!

(Please forgive me for not commenting recently. Although we have a hotspot, it's terrible and very difficult for me to read and comment on blogs. This is my fourth time trying. Hope it works!)

Happy New Year, dear friend.
What a wonderful post!!! I love the the photos... You have such an eye for beauty, finding it in just about everything in nature... Unable to spend time on the computer, and I have missed you. Thank you for always coming over, even when I am not around...

There was frost on my lawn this past week also... Poor little Jasper went out back very early in the morning after the sprinklers went off... The water turned to ice and he slid across the cement.. No harm done, but very surprised.
Blessings dear friend

Sounds like such a positive thing for the new year. The little details are so sweet- the blue on the birds, the touches of frost, the shapes of the tree branches.

My dear, dear friend.

I spent yesterday in the company of nature and my husband, as we went out on a very SUNNY but frigid day. I know exactly what you are expressing here....

The older I get, the more I want to keep company with nature. I love the excitement of creations made by human hands, the art, the home décor, the thrill of the hunt in an antique store in order to acquire a piece of history. HOWEVER, there is no place like the home nature provides. This "home" is that sweet spot, that center in which I find myself every time I see a bird, cherish the sunrise, bid goodnight to a sunset. I find myself there, I find Christ. We all need to get back to nature in whatever way we can, and THAT HORSE! Did you think of ME? You know I adore white horses! Oh do I love them...

Yes, nature is about as close as you can get to the real self...I always say, "We were meant to be in the garden from the very beginning. It's in our genes."

Much happiness to you as you ponder the skies and feathered creatures and the beasts of the earth. Much love, Anita

Hello, I found you via Catherine's blog... I think maybe your birds nest is made by the magpies - I have seen them building nests here - they are messy workers and don't care about them looking pretty! squirrels also build messy nests that can look like a broken/fallen birds nest! In the UK we have rain rain and more rain, your frosty pictures look beautiful and I would welcome some sparkly frost. Betty
