Lions And Tigers And Bears, Oh My!

When I visited Southern California recently, we stopped at the studio where they filmed The Wizard of Oz.

All the cast stayed in this Hotel.  Legend has it that a secret underground tunnel was built for the munchkins so that they could go back and forth between the studio and the hotel so no one would see them before the movie.

Come along, and I'll show you more.

The swan fixtures in the bathroom were so cool.

This was on the door of the Girls' bathroom.

And the Boys'.

Nel loves this bookshelf.  It stretches up to the top of the ceiling with a tall ladder.

This chandelier hangs pretty in the hotel.

So Cal is a fun place to visit!

Oh my, looks like we're not in Kansas anymore. ;) What a lovely tour, my friend. I visited So Cal in 1987, when my husband and I spent a week in San Fran, drove down Pacific Coast Hwy to So Cal to visit with my cousin for a couple of days, then hopped on a plane for another week touring islands in Hawaii. Sigh...fun times.
I love the bookshelf here and the swan faucet is dreamy.
Thank you for stirring good memories.

Sherri, I live in So CA and I didn't even know about this. What hotel is it? I will have to make a little trip there.
All of my hummers left because there is one that is so MEAN he chases everyone away and I think they got tired of trying to eat. It broke my heart, as I got to attached to them.
Hopefully they will come back. I know how much you love them.
Great memories of your trip.
Mary

Wow. This is so exciting. I would love to visit there. It must have been very interesting and amazing. I’m impressed by the swan taps. I have never seen anything like that before. I wish I could get them in my apartment.

You know, I've never been to this studio, but on my recent visit, going down Sunset Blvd was a treat to see how Hollywood has changed since my day!

I must run off to work now dearest, but it's always good to see one of your posts. HAVE FUN! Anita

So very interesting Sheri. The swan fixture is gorgeous and it does indicate what a special movie it was, that photos of the cast are still kept in the hotel. Thank you for showing this piece of Hollywood history. xxx

Hi Sheri,

I just tried to leave a comment and when I hit the button to publish, a blank page came up Service Unavailable??

I'm just now trying to play catch-up since the Christmas holidays visiting blogs. What a fun trip you had. I always loved the Wizard of Oz and as a child watched it every year it was on the TV (in black and white back then LOL) So glad you had a nice trip! :-)
