I've Been Tagged

There is a tagging game going around where you reveal a few things about yourself, and I was tagged by lovely Barbara from Just A Peek Into My Heart

just a peek into my heart.   Barbara is a talented Photographer and is a sweet friend of mine in the blogworld.  Thank you, Barbara, for thinking of me when you picked out friends to join the game.  Here are my answers to the questions.

Where Were You Born?
I was born and raised in a town in Northern California.  I was the youngest of five children, and loved my parents dearly.

Were You Named After Someone?
I actually wasn't named after anyone.  My real name is Sheryl, and I guess that was a favorite of my mom's at the time.

If You Have Any Children, How Many?
I have 3 children.  You all know Nel and Jess (Danelle and Jessica).  My son is the youngest, and they are the loves of my life.

How Many Pets Do You Have?
I've had dogs my whole life, but at the time, I don't have any pets.  I do want to get two dogs if we move to the country, so they can roam around and have the freedom that dogs love.

What Was Your Worst Injury?
I have been blessed with my health and have not had serious injuries.  When I was a teenager, I was on a baseball team, and it had just rained and the grounds were muddy.  A fly ball flew in the outfield, bounced off the ground, and Smack hit me right in the nose and fractured it.  After that, I didn't care for baseball much.

Do You Have Any Special Talents?
I love Photography, and would like to think that some of my pictures turned out very nice.  This is one of the first pictures I took that made me realize how much I love taking pictures.

What Is Your Favorite Thing To Bake?
Brownies.  I have a thing for fudge brownies.

What Is Your Favorite Fast Food?
I don't eat much fast food really, but every now and then I will treat myself to an InNOut Burger.

What Is The First Thing You Notice About People?
Honestly, their general appearance.  I am drawn to the eyes, and if they have a nice smile, all the better.  I notice their outward beauty first, but only appreciate them if they have the same beauty inside.  That outweighs all of their physical looks.

When Was The Last Time You Cried?
I cry all the time - when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm thrilled.  My mom was a crier, and I think she passed that on to me haha.

Do You Have Any Current Worries?
Life is very good for me right now.  I have an abundance of blessings, and I believe that good things are coming my way.

Name 3 Drinks That You Drink Regularly?
Tea, cranberry juice, water.

What Is Your Favorite Book?
I don't read books much, but I do enjoy reading about everybody's passions in the blogworld.

Would You Like To Be A Pirate?
No, but Pirates of the Caribbean is a favorite ride of mine.

What Are Your Favorite Smells?
Coffee, Christmas trees, and Roses.

Why Do You Blog?
I wanted a place to share with my daughters all the things we love.  I wanted to share projects, pictures, and happenings of every day life.  I wanted to bring a bit of sunshine to those who may be struggling with something in their life.  What I found out is that I have learned from and have been inspired by my blog sisters as well.

What Is The Least Favorite Thing About Myself?
I'm really happy with the whole package.  Every individual is unique and special in their own way.

What Is Your Favorite Hobby?
Photography.  I love taking pictures, and I'm still learning, but I don't want to ever forget that there will be times when I take a unique and special picture, but it is God's amazing world that allows me to do so.

What Do You Look For In A Friend?
Loyalty, sincerity, kindness, love.

This is not my picture.

Name Something That You Have Done That You Never Expected To Do?
Climbed the top of Horsetail Falls, which is about 8,000 ft. in elevation.  I know it's not Mt. Shasta, but it was difficult for me to do, as I'm not typically a climber.

What Are Your Favorite Things To Do?
Photography, Gardening, Home Decorating, Blogging, Being with my family, Writing short stories.

Any Pet Peeves?
People talking loudly on their cell phones in the stores.

What Is The Last Thing That Make You Laugh?
My husband will say in just a few words some inside jokes ocassionally that make me crack up.

Now, it is my turn to tag a few more.  If you don't want to participate, that's OK, but I do hope you'll join in the fun!

Candle Holder Tutorial

Do you have any candle holders that are out of wax, but are just being stored away somewhere in your home?

I have a couple unique candle holders that I don't want to throw out, but there is candle wax at the bottom.

I found this amazing solution on Pinterest that showed me how to easily remove the remaining wax.

Simply boil some water,

and pour the hot water into your glass candle holders.

The wax will gradually rise to the top.

Once the wax at the top hardens a bit, you may want to cut it in half so it is easy to remove once cooled.

I would wait until the water and wax are completely cooled so you don't pour waxy water down your kitchen sink!

Remove the excess dirt with soap and water, and voilà!

You have a refurbished storage container that you can place a new candle in or use for another purpose.

Let me know if you decide to try this.

Sing To Me, Robin

Me and husband were
just sitting out in the
back yard on Sunday
watching the birds
and listening to their
song.  I think this is
the American Robin,
but not sure.

My husband started
making bird noises
to them, and they
sang right back to
him.  Before I knew
it, there were many
birds flying about in
our back yard
chirping their song.

Then, a couple of
Mourning Doves
visited us, and we
smiled, as the
Mourning Dove
forms strong pair
bonds.

Here they are
kissing eachother.

When I took this
picture of the moon,
I noticed a face on it.
Do you see it too?

I love bird watching,
and I hope my fine
feathered friends
come back to visit
us again soon.

Fat Tuesday

Happy Mardi Gras!

Nel and I made a visit to New Orleans a couple years ago for Mardi Gras (read about our trip and Mardi Gras here),

and ever since then we have made a point to honor this lively holiday.

Tonight I will be making jambalaya and mini muffulettas (a New Orleans' specialty sandwich.

You can find the recipe here.)

I'll be listening to jazz and blues in the kitchen and toasting to Fat Tuesday.

(One of my favorite songs by Billy Holiday.)

Do you celebrate Mardi Gras/Carnival?

Peace

In return,
you will receive
untold peace
and happiness."

My sister-in-law
sent me this
picture one day
and I thought it
was the most
beautiful picture
that I had ever
seen.  I will keep
it always.

Hello Love

You know how much
I love red roses.
Well, I was out
shopping and came
across this red rose
candle.  It even
smells like a rose!

Then,
at another store,
I spotted this.

I am a bit of a
romantic,
and here is one of
 my favorite poems.
It's just a couple
verses, not the whole
poem, and it's written
by Robert Burns.

O my Luve's like a red red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.

Oh, love is in the air,
 and I'm sending
it your way.

Have a nice
weekend, friends.
