Where Did Your Blog Name Come From

Do you ever wonder
where our friend's
blog names came
from?  I am always
curious about this,
and maybe you
are as well.

First, I will tell
you why we chose
our blog name, and
what it means to us.

Out of all the roses,
we think the red rose
is the most beautiful.
And it is a symbol of
Love.

Alleys have always
been a bit mysterious
to us, and fun too.

So, that's where we
got our name,
Red Rose Alley.

Now, we are
interested how
you came up
with your
blog name.
Please tell us.
We would love
to know.

Have a sweet day.

~Sheri

Hi Sheri!
My entire name in Greek is Paraskevi, which means Friday. Back in 2007 I took a brief Portuguese course and I found out that sexta-feira means Friday. Hence the name of the blog. :)

Evi,
Yours was one that I was very interested in. I always wondered what Sexta-feira meant. Thank you for letting us know.

Hi Sheri,
I KNEW you loved roses! Funny my name started with roses, lots of roses and flowers. I owned a floral shop 26 years ago called The Robin's Nest (being my name is Robin and nests are cozy.) - It has stuck with me all these years. Wish I still had the sign from my floral shop. :( Was the best job I ever had! :)

I spent ages trying to find a name for my etsy shop when someone said write down the styles you like, and forget what your trying to sell for now, and that's the order it came out. I stayed with it as a temporary measure, because I wasn't sure, but it stuck and is now it's used for all! Suzy x

I've always loved anything French. When I visited France, there were all kinds of lavender and I brought back some old linens. I also grow lavender anywhere I can find a spot, plus I love, love linen. Sooo...that's how I came up with my blog name.

I think your blog name just fits you!

My blog name came from collecting Valentine's of course! LOL! I had a book on Romantic Notions which were about Valentine's and little notions the Victorians collected...I thought that was so sweet..so I added the Sweet to Romantic Notions! Sweet Romantic Notions..at first my blog started out only showing/talking about Valentine's and it's origin but that changed soon as after Valentine's day I had no visitors.. :( so I added other SWEET things to blog about..

Castles Crowns and Cottages said...

Good evening gorgeous friend!

I named my blog after three things that I am STILL passionate about after five years of having started

CASTLES
CROWNS and
COTTAGES

I love all three. Castles hold a mystery for me, crowns and tiaras of all sorts are an unusual accessory but so beautiful, and cottages? I live in one and I could not think of any other abode to dwell in.

Hugs sweet friend, Anita

FABBY'S LIVING said...

Oh yeah, I always wondered too, lol.. I like your blog's name. I used to look at all the blogs you guys posted at Susan's BNOTP and I told my daughter once, about how beautiful it was and since I always liked decorating, tablescaping, cooking, etc...she said to me: go mama, I'll do it for you; to make the story short, she said: think of a title and I remember Martha Stewart's Living I admired so much and thought perfect for me to name mine: FABBY'S LIVING! This is the story, which was rather fast! Fun post, thank you for the idea, such fun to know! Big hugs,

I've always loved your blog name and I have often wondered about a lot of blog names, so it is fun to read what some of these mean. Mine is pretty obvious too, I live in a very small historical town. The only choices we have for groceries is Kroger and Walmart. When I started my blog I just thought it would always give me inspiration for my blog. Thanks for this post, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hi Sheri

I came up with "A Darling's Nest" because my Surname is Darling and Nests always remind me of cosy homes and that is what I love to do. Forever striving to cosy up our home.

I love red Roses, your blog name triggered me to come and visit you for the very first time. And I still love to come over my dear friend!

When choosing my blog name my first thought was to use HOUSE OF BE, but that name wasn't avaliable at that time. So my blog name is my second choice, because I wanted to share about what's making my heart sing. I'm not that kind of girl that opens her heart to everyone, so my blog show just a little peek into my life.

Thank you for this wonderful post, I've enjoyed reading the comments too.
Hugs from Holland,
B.

I was feeling unsettled with my life in the internet - I helped create and participated in some Forums but... - I wanted something without the drama that always seem to happen in those places and I thought in creating a Blog. I had a first one but I thought it was too much work and I felt very lonely because no one knew it and I had no idea how I could call people to visit. So I gave up. It was also too ambitious and I started creating one with several pages. Not good when you're starting.

When I decided to have another go I was idealess for a name. Didn't want to use the previous one but no idea which then, until I come across this song and this verse:

"Got no diamond, got no pearl,
Still I think I'm a lucky girl.
I've got the sun in the morning
And the moon at night.
Got no mansion, got no yacht,
Still I'm happy with what I got.
I've got the sun in the morning
And the moon at night
Sunshine gives me a lovely day,
Moonlight gives me the Milky Way."

And tchrammm "that's it". What I want for my blog: to share thoughts and ideas that inspire on others the same way I feel.

Names have power because for long - and by far my more creative times on the blog as now I get lost so often in my friends' blogs - I didn't receive visitors and was OK with it. Never thought of giving it up. Now friends have been enriching the space with their visits and comments but back then when I was there all alone I just had to read the name of the blog on the top and feel - like the song says - I think I'm a lucky girl.

Names have power and the name and picture of yours on top of it makes me feel like entering a friends' home... just through the alley to a friendly and fun place full of blessed souls.

Enjoy the weekend,

Teresa

Well hello sweet ladies. First I must tell Nel that i LOVE LOVE LOVE her honeymoon pics. You are sooo beautiful and I'm sooo glad you enjoyed Paris so much. You shine girl.
Sheri, thank you for coming by last month to say hi. I'm still struggling with pain. This has been a very very long recovery. I'm nearly 6 months with over a yr to go : (
This is my third blog name. First was Pink something or other, but realized it wasn't original. Bublin' Over was second because that's how I live. Third, "French, Pink, Poodles and Pearls" because I'm French, I LOVE Pink, pearls and of course diamonds and I have 7 dogs, 3 being poodles. WOW that's a mouth full.
I hope you are all well and I'm so happy to have met you through blogging. I've always LOVED Red Rose Alley and all of you, but Sheri, you always spoke to my heart.
Giving you a great big virtual hug my friends.
Love Claudie

Purple Flowers said...

My blog name Purple Flowers came from 1. love the color purple. However, most importantly are the Rosario Iris in my garden that bloom in the Spring. I found them in a catalog the year my Father passed away.....and his name was Rosario. There goes my little story. They're strong, they hold up through the hard rain, and they bloom a beautiful purple and yellow colors.

Happy Spring!

Art and Sand said...

My blog is Art and Sand. My husband is an artist who found his muse when we bought out little beach cottage. We bought our little beach cottage when I continually complained that there was sand underfoot from his surfing. I told him that he needed to buy me a beach house and I would stop complaining.

Our house is actually on an alley. The cottage was built in 1937 when there were sidewalks in front of all the houses that led out to the beach. The cars parked in back in the alleys. In the late 60s the city closed off all the sidewalks and deeded the property to the homeowners on either side of the sidewalk. The alleys became the streets. So the back of our house is now the front. I think it was much prettier when the cars parked in the alley and the garages were in back. Now all the houses have the garages in the front.

Dear Sheri.
I never ever thought that i would blog. I was browsing the net one day, and something told me to search blogs. I had heard of them, but wasnt sure really what it was all about. I read a few and thought to myself.. mmmm. I could fill in a little time here doing this.
I started the process with much difficulty in the beginning.. Then came to the bit where we choose the name.
We chose to live here in this beautiful Alentejo.. it was where my x husband was born and raised..
he had told me stories of this lovely province..during our many years together..
It truly is a beautiful province.. I live here, my life is here. so I called it "Val's Alentejo" ..writing about my life here and things i like.

Sheri what a good question !
and how wonderful to be able to read what every-one shared with you !
I live in Holland and a friend of mine told me she started a blog !
and I saw what she did and was amazed .....
Did not think for one minute I could do such a thing too .
So I followed her and than one day she said I had to write a blog too !
She offered to help me and I remember being very nervous to take the step !
immediately the first problem ......THE NAME ...
I had no idea because I also had no idea what I would be writing about .
So I waited for a while .....
and than I knew ......how I love to be surprised by small things ...
unexpected things .... a smile , a postcard , a little flower between the tiles of the pavement , a little bird taking a bath , a beautiful line in a movie , sometimes ONE word , all kinds of small things.....
In dutch the word is VERWONDERING and I looked for it in my dictionary
and there it was .....surprise .....by surprise
Surprise is also a dutch word as it is in french too ......
I am still very happy with my blog name
Thank you for asking and reminding !
Happy weekend

I've always been fascinated by the Gypsy life. The thought of climbing aboard a Caravan and going anywhere my heart would fancy holds such magic. Choosing it's color was easy, purple is one of my favorites. Great post and as usual great ideas. Happy Spring! XO

For my blog's name I wanted to incorporate hubby's and my initials; A for my name P for hubby's nickname and C for our last name. Using the C for cottage was easy because I love cottages and I have always considered our home a cottage and so was P for Petite because our home is well, petite. A was a little harder to come up with but after a lot of over thinking about it I decided to keep it simple, A for A because our home is A Petite Cottage...Not a very interesting story but this is how I came up with my blog's name. It was great reading how everyone came up with their names. Awesome post Sheri. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Lots of hugs,
❤Ana

Hi Sheri!
What an inspiring post!
I love why you named your blog "Red Rose Alley".
It suits you so well!
I have so enjoyed reading through your comments here from friends and how they chose their blog names ;)
My blog name "With all my heart" came to my heart when considering my blog.I have to say that this was the only name that came to me. I then asked God to give me what He would have it named...and then I just left it in His hands. Not long after I was reading in the scriptures and I came upon this same Word. I know that He is filled with joy and loves it so when we do all things, "with all our heart".
His greatest command being to "love Him with all our heart"
I was overjoyed when I sensed His Spirit confirming my choice while I was in His Word. i think it was really His choice anyway ;)
And when you hear His voice...there is peace and joy.
Warmest of hugs!

All my heart,
Deborah xoxoxo

Hi Sheri,
This is a wonderful post and I so enjoyed reading the comments from others on how their blog name came to be. Love how yours arrived and the pic of the puppy holding the rose just steals my heart.

My blog name evolved over time and gives honor to my grandmother who I was named after. My mother shortened my name to Celeste when I started school to be easier I guess to spell. Many years later, I wished I had been known in the full version. Thus, I can do that now and be Celestina Marie.

Thank you for thinking of this. Great fun.

My girlfriend who can't hardly boil water is always in awe of the things I make... well, one day she said to me, "Cheryl, your so artsy fartsy" After a hearty laugh and a huge grin... I tucked that sweet little memory away for years & years... until one day I had to "name my blog" *gasp* Oh the pressure. Then "Artsy Fartsy" popped into my head and there it is for all the world to see. I AM Artsy Fartsy :-)

Sheri, although I'm not posting or visiting too much this week, I couldn't resist stopping by to wish you a Happy Easter and browse a little while I'm here. I'm glad I did. Nel's honeymoon pics are DREAMY. Sigh...must go one day.
For some reason, I always thought the alley part of your blog title was due to the memory you've shared of you and your husband's kiss. Either way I think it is a perfect title which suits you well.
I explain a little of how we came up with The Shop Around the Corner on our Shopkeepers page but it comes from the children's bookstore in the movie, You've Got Mail, which my daughter and I both love. I wanted the page to have a very whimsical and childlike feel to it...carefree and lighthearted...just how I feel each time I watch the movie. For as long as I can remember, I have always dreamed of owning a bookstore. Each time I watch the movie I can SO IMAGINE myself in that bookshop...and I smile. :) A smile is what I want each of our blog readers to take with them when they visit, and from some of the comments we have received, I am delighted that so many have confirmed it. :)
Happy Easter again, love.
Hugs.

Doll in the Looking Glass said...

Sheri, so glad you asked this question. I read every comment since the responses really allow you to get to know a person. Doll in the Looking Glass is the name of my doll boutique that was inspired by a Victorian era postcard with an image of a lovely child gazing at her reflection in a mirror. Of course during that time frame, looking glass was the common term. The Looking Glass part of the name came first and I looked for ways to tie the product into the name.

Have a blessed Easter with your lovely family,
Debra
