In the Kitchen

We love good food. Who doesn't?? I am always on the lookout for quick, tasty, and healthy recipes to give my meals some variety. I decided to make crepes this week. This French treat is delicious and surprisingly easy to make. I used a recipe courtesy of Alton Brown from Food Network  (click on link for full recipe!) You can fill your crepes with whatever your heart desires - the options are endless.

For lunch or dinner, try chicken with spinach and artichoke hearts, or ground turkey or beef with sour cream and green onions for a Mexican twist. And don't forget the cheese! Cream cheese, Parmesan, Swiss (Emmental), or good ol' cheddar. If you are in the mood for dessert (as we usually are), try peanut butter and banana or strawberries and Nutella. For my fillings, I decided on ham and light brie with a touch of basil and oregano.

Bon Appétit!

I know it sounds crazy, but I had 2 homemade crepes this morning for breakfast. My beautiful mom made her Romanian family recipe. I love mine plain because they are a tad bit sweet. I will have to see if she will allow my to share her recipe as well someday!!

I love crepes! I love chicken and cheese crepes with a white sauce. My favorite, though, would have to be Uncle Dan's "french pancakes". He's made them since we've been married 30 years ago, and they're really good! He makes them plain with a little lemon juice and sugar. I like mine with Matt and Ashley's homemade strawberry jam. He makes a ton of em and we gobble them up. They will always remind me of him. Don't we love food and talking about food? Btw, after I read your post, I went in the kitchen and made a pot of homemade broccoli cheese soup. So good. And Katie is making Greek lemon and rice soup. Have you ever had it? It's her comfort food. Thanks for the yummy and inspiring post! Mona

Mona,
I haven't had lemon and rice soup since Mom made it. I forgot about that.

Jackie,
Isn't it great when we are handed down family recipes? Jess actually made those crepes and said they are so simple to do. We would love it if you would share a Romanian family dish with us. When Jess traveled through Europe, she said her favorite food was from Paris.

Hi gals!
Your posting makes me want to rush to my kitchen to make a crepe! I love crepes, and there is a little place not too far from where I live that makes them. The shop is called J'aime Les Crepes and it is located in Kingston, WA. I did a posting on it on my blog. The man who owns the creperie used to live in France. When he returned to the United States, he missed the crepes he had in France. So, he moved back and learned to make them! He bought a special grill that they use in France to make the crepes and had it shipped to the US. After returning, he opened J'aime Les Crepes in Kingston near the ferry terminal. My husband and I love to drive over to Kingston on a beautiful day and go to the lighthouse nearby. We always stop and get a crepe afterwards. My favorite crepe at J'aime Les Crepes is the chicken, pesto, garlic, lemon, spinach and parmesan crepe. SO good! I cannot wait to try your tempting recipe for a crepe! I know your crepes are a big hit as they are delicious and made with love! Great posting! Have a beautiful day, dear friends! xoxo Kim

Kim,
I looked at your BLog earlier today, and I'm always amazed with your pictures. There are so many nice looking places to eat in your town. I think my favorite picture, though, was of you at your house overlooking the view and you were barefoot. Loved that picture.
